TruCal Privacy Policy

TruCal is a calorie and macro tracking app. This policy explains what data the app uses, how it is stored, and what choices you have.

This document describes the current behaviour of the TruCal mobile app.

Data We Collect

App data you enter

• Profile information such as age, weight, height, gender and activity level.
• Nutrition goals such as calorie targets and macro ratios.
• Meal and food logs, including any custom foods you create.
• Templates, settings, and other configuration data you create in the app.

All of this data is provided by you and is used only to power TruCal’s functionality on your device.

Automatically collected data

TruCal does not include any analytics SDKs or advertising trackers in the app code.

We do not run our own servers for TruCal and do not collect your personal nutrition data on any backend we control.

Where Your Data Is Stored

On your device

• The app stores your profile, meals, templates, custom foods and settings locally on your device using app storage (such as AsyncStorage).
• This allows the app to work offline and keep your data available between sessions.
• Your data is subject to the security of your device and operating system (e.g., device encryption, screen lock).

In the cloud

TruCal does not store your nutrition data on any TruCal‑managed server or third‑party database.

Your mobile platform provider (Apple or Google) may back up app data as part of normal device backups or app backup settings on your device. Those backups are controlled by your device and OS settings, not by TruCal.

How We Use Your Data

We use your data only on your device to:

• Calculate calorie and macro targets and display progress.
• Save and restore your logs, templates, custom foods, and settings.

We do not:

• Sell your data to advertisers or data brokers.
• Use your meal data for targeted advertising.
• Share your personal entries with other users.

Third-Party Services

Open Food Facts

When you use barcode scanning or barcode lookup:

• The app sends the product’s barcode only to the Open Food Facts public API to fetch nutrition information.
• Your profile, meals, and other personal details are not sent with these requests.

Open Food Facts may receive your IP address and other standard HTTP metadata as part of the request, in accordance with their own privacy policy.

Data Retention

• On your device: Data remains until you uninstall the app or clear app storage. The app also includes options to reset your profile and clear certain data from within Settings.

We do not hold copies of your nutrition data on our own servers.

Your Choices and Controls

• You can use the app without any online account; all features are available locally on your device.
• You can reset your profile and certain stored data from the app’s Settings screen.
• You can remove all data by uninstalling the app or clearing its storage via your device settings.

Children’s Privacy

TruCal is not directed to children under 13 and should not be used by them. If you believe we have stored data for a child under 13 in any future online service related to TruCal, please contact us so we can delete it.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time to reflect changes to the app or to legal requirements. When we do, we will update the “Last updated” date above. Significant changes may also be highlighted in the app release notes.
